IMPASSABLE CREVASSE

Before the homogenization of coffee

through Grandes and Talls

When there were dreams

Before cell phones and Facetimes

Before the distance of life

And family calendars

Before your secret calls to loves past

In Nepal, worlds away from you

There was a night

Where the hope in my heart was so vast

And miles between so far

And stoned hut views so foreign

Where I looked up

Through the silhouette of Rhododendrons

Past the deep indigo sky

Over the glowing Annapurnas

To the electric blue moon

I dissolved

12 hours ahead

Where you sat

Looking at the night sky

Time is not linear

It was then, but instantly it is now

All at once

30 years past tense

30 years present tense

Past present

Present past

The space between our room

And the living room downstairs

Now an impassable crevasse

The crack quickly widening

The distance of the Himalayas

A closer more comfortable trek

Do you notice the moon anymore

When you are home?

I’ve been catching glimpses lately

And tonight in our room

I look out the window

Past the silhouette of pines and cedars

Surrounded by the deep indigo sky

And I watch the moon rise

and couldn’t feel farther away from you

LIGHT THE FIRE ANYWAY

I want to sit at a table with you Eating toast and jam Sun cracking through the veil of fireplace smoke

REGRETS

Shards of what could have been Land on the capsule of what is And sting as they pluck at the eyebrows of the soul
